Journal Notes: Swiss Retreats, 60s style in Brazil, Bullshots, Alitalia Design
Where to Stay
Recharge at these Swiss Wellness Hotels
Looking to escape to the Alps and take time for yourself? Nobel & Style has some great Wellness Spas and Hotels for you to check out. I have no idea how you choose between all of these. I think I would start with the 7132 Hotel...looks like something out of a Bond film.
At Home
Design Inspo from a 1960s Brasília Apartment
Check out the vibes at this renovated & redesigned apartment by Debaixo do Bloco Arquitetura in Brazil. Our friends at Dezeen have the details — and don't miss the picture of the cocktail bar.
What to Drink
A "Beefy" Drink for the Winter
Recently we hosted our friends for a fondue night, pulling some recipes from the Alpine Cooking cookbook from Meredith Erickson. The cheese was great...but also in the pages of Meredith's cookbook was "A Proper Bullshot." A cocktail who's main ingredient is beef consume. I'll let the folks over at Inside Hook explain in their write up of the drink and its Alpine tradition.
In Transit
Alitalia's Design Heritage
Alitalia (the state-owned airline in Italy that shut down last year) was synonymous with the country, the pope, and good design. Domus outlines some of the details (designer uniforms, beautiful terminals, and contemporary art hung in the aircraft) that made Alitalia an icon. I have a few vintage ads and other pieces of ephemera in my collection. Having said all of that, the last few times I flew Alitalia the heritage and charm of the brand were the best thing about it...the actual experience itself left something to be desired.
